iCarly McDonald's Happy Meal toys overview + review
The next batch of McDonald's Happy Meal toys are the tired old Star Wars american-style SD dolls for boys, and previously unknown iCarly stuff for girls. When I first heard about it I was actually excited, maybe they'll have little figurines like those Playmates keychains and playsets! That'd be cool. Well life sucks and here is the opposite of the case. Toy overview and impressions after the LJ cut.

Thumbnail preview:

These are the toys and a description:
"Animate Me"
A plastic golem with a digital face. It smiles at you from the subzero dark depths of space. If you push a little button in the front it gives you a googly eye, attempting to fool you into identifying with its false humanity.

"Customizable Dog"
A plastic dog you can draw on with a marker and wipe down. I guess you could call this a labra-DOODLE. If it's made in China you might also get lead poisoning.

"Tote Bag"
A tote bad.

"Sticker Locker"
A sticker dispenser.

A near-empty plastic shell, possibly meant to represent life. Contains a pad of paper and a pencil or pen.

"Lip Gloss Phone"
Flip phone that opens up to a small mirror and a small pool of lip gloss.

Bracelet with a transparent bubble with changeable inserts. Of the 6 inserts, only 1 has Jerry.

"Spencer's Magic Meatball"
The only toy I think would interest most of you and/or your daughters. Gives 3 or 4 answers from a voice chip after pressing a button. Is not an authentic recreation of the meatball--this one has the 4-some on a sticker on the front.

Girls buy iCarly episodes off iTunes these days and trade javascript code. Even though these are Happy Meal toys "for girls", what they actually are, are insultingly girly.

Now you don't even need to come up with excuses to buy these "for your nieces" or "for your sisters". I would have liked half of the toys to be 1 each of the 4-some but my disappointment is complete and irreversible.

Personally I would actively avoid McDonalds for the next month after seeing these toys, and another month on top of that for good measure, but some of you might drop by for the Meatball or possibly the digital lifeless face golem to take apart and tinker with.

Link to all the toys here.

I want Spencer's Magic Meatball!

The meatball thing is the only neat thing I would like, but even then, meh. These are pretty disappointing. My daughter would probably like any of them, though.

WHOAH, I just checked out the Animate Me thing, WTH is up with that? It's kind of creepy.

LOL Notice how Rob mentions Jerry only being a part of these toys once

Actually once you do the interactive website they dont look that bad, and three of the 6 inserts are the entire cast. The entire cast is part of the meatball and the stickers and the laptop :)

haha I didn't look that closely at each sticker decal. I think I was blinded by the glaucoma of disappointment. I only mentioned Jerry because, well, for you + some girls he's the reason for iCarly existing.

haha hey...I watched iCarly obsessively in the beginning just because I loved it so much. I somehow identified with Carly lolz and Freddie. Then this year Spencer became my reason for BEING..I kid

The meatball is sort of cool, though I think it'd be cool if they actually made a regular toy version magic 8 ball style. They definitely did a Hannah Montana magic 8 ball that I used to ask ridiculous questions when I worked at a toy store.

If I were a kid these would have been the crappy kind of prizes. I miss when McDonalds used to do little figurines of characters. I used to play with Meg and Hercules toys from McDonald's all the live long day.

I'm totes getting my brother to steal me a Magic Meatball.

And didn't it talk in the show too? Or am I thinking of the Magic Conch?
SJcrimsongypsy on February 23rd, 2010 04:27 am (UTC)
Both talked actually.
The one in the show, I belive, was Schnider's voice Curious to know if that's the case with the toy... is it sad that that would make or break it for me XD

I personally wouldn't mind getting any in my Happy Meal except "Animate Me". It looks dumb to me... and it wouldn't make me happy, lol.

Okay, your descriptions are hilarious. Especially animate me. Thanks for the laughs!

Thanks! I try my best.

God, iCarly products just can't NOT suck, can they? Hopefully the Penny Tees (they are still going to be made, right?) will be better. Can't really think of how they could screw those up.

But, um, regardless... I need to get my but over to McDonald's. I think you can buy the toys without getting a Happy Meal. Magic Meatball looks cute, and maybe the bracelet. Maybe the "laptop", 'cause I could always use more paper and writing utensils. The rest... not so much.

And for the fun of it, comic book writer and Portland, Oregon resident Brian Michael Bendis (Ultimate Spider-Man, Avengers: Disassembled, Spider-Woman: Origins, and a ton of other Marvel titles) wrote this on his twitter yesterday: Icarly toys at mcdonalds. My kids are going to shit thier pants

I got the Magic Meatball today because I had to have it. I'm 26 years old and I'm getting happy meals just for the iCarly toys. lol

You're not alone! I'm 25 and considering heading down to a McD for a Happy Meal for a toy also (I just heard about them today).

just bought a happy meal for myself and got the labradoodle :-p Yes, i am 24 years old and i bought a mighty kids meal for myself to get an iCarly toy. I win.
But from now on i'm going inside so i can ask what toys they have. There's a language barrier for some reason when i go through the drive-thru

hahaha I found this community in a google search for these toys, I got the locker tonight in my happy meal, and um, it's the perfect cigarette case :)
