------------------------------

SPOILER ALERT!!!
SPOILER ALERT!!!

*** FUN FACTS ABOUT iMAKE SAM GIRLIER ***

1st SCENE

As far as I know, there is no such thing as a "Home Bio Scanner" like the kind Freddie demonstrates in this opening scene. We (the writers and I) invented it because we thought it sounded like a cool thing, and something Freddie would be into. You'll probably be able to buy something like that soon, if you can't already.

"El Taco Guapo" (a food chain like Taco Bell) was first mentioned in the Zoey 101 episode about an old radio. The name means "The Handsome Taco" -- which amuses me! (P.S. The vintage radio that was used in that episode of Zoey 101 was one from my personal bakelute radio collection).

I think this is the first mention ever of a new market which I named "Hey Food". That's my little parody of "Whole Foods" -- and I also like it because it sounds like "Hey Jude," the famous Beatles song.

2nd SCENE

As you see, the writing credit for this episode went to Jake Farrow, a great writer who's worked with me for several years. He wrote on Drake & Josh, and he's the guy who played GAVIN, the dude with the weird mullet haircut who worked in the Premiere and always used to say, "I got it." Before I met Jake, he was a writer's assistant on the show "Friends."

Seeing Gibby pop out of that cake makes me laugh every time!

When the group starts to sing "Happy Birthday," Freddie stops them and says "Not PD" -- and then the group sings "For She's A Jolly Good Fellow" instead. This is a little inside joke. Believe it or not, SOMEONE OWNS the rights to the song "Happy Birthday." So, if you want to use it in a TV show or movie, you have to PAY someone. But... nobody owns the rights to the song "For He's A Jolly Good Fellow." It's a FREE "PD" (Public Domain) song. That's why, on television, you'll hear "For He's A Jolly Good Fellow" sung way more often than you'll hear "Happy Birthday." One's free, and one costs money.

3rd SCENE

As you see, this episode was directed by Roger Christiansen. For many years, Roger worked as the camera coordinator on the TV show "Friends."

Spencer's love interest "Veronica" is played by actress Valerie Azlynn. By coincidence, she also recently guest starred on my good friend Steve Molaro's show, "The Big Bang Theory."

Does it look too much like Carly is holding a BEER in this scene???

I love the last joke of this scene, when Gibby says "What are you, a cop?" -- kills me!

4th SCENE

We shot an ending to this scene that the network asked me to CUT OUT, which I did. After Spencer says "The tux is the key" with his hand over Carly's mouth... GIBBY emerged from Spencer's room WITH 2 CUTE GIRLS and said, "Hey, thanks for the party. G'night." -- then Gibby and the girls walked out, leaving Carly and Spencer looking surprised.

The network didn't like this because they felt it suggested that Gibby was in Spencer's bedroom, unsupervised, making out with the girls. My argument back was, "Come on, we don't have any idea WHAT Gibby was doing back there with the girls" -- but the network felt it was too suggestive, so I cut that part out in editing, to make them happy.

5th SCENE

When Sam is removing the stuff from her locker, I love that the side of one box says "KABOOM" -- what is it?!?! :)

There is a joke in this scene where Carly refers to the mean girl (Jocelyn) as a "senior citizen." There's a reason for this joke. Casting the role of "Jocelyn" was hard. It was tough to find a high school girl who was big and intimidating enough. The girl I ended up casting was great -- the best choice by far -- but I felt she looked a little old to be in high school (although there are some 19 and even 20 year olds in high school). Anyway, since I felt she looked a little old, I figured I'd "own" that issue by having Carly comment on it. That's why I added the "senior citizen" joke for her.

Sam's original (scripted) line in the scene went like this: "When everyone was makin' their speeches about me at the party, it made me feel... bad." On the floor (which means "on the set while filming"), I changed "BAD" to "ICKY" because I felt it was cuter and funnier.

I love the joke that ends this scene (and Act One) where Carly says, "Panties" which makes Sam scream in horror! I wrote that joke because I've heard many girls say they hate the word "panties" -- while other girls use the word all the time. I felt Sam would be the type to despise the word "panties" -- and Carly would be the type to use it.

6th SCENE

I cut out a bit from the Carly/Sam scene at the kitchen table. After Carly tells Sam, "Nice guys like girls with good manners" -- Sam said "Fine" and then she SPIT OUT her chewed up spaghetti into her hand. And, in a couple of takes, she even put the chewed up spaghetti BACK INTO HER MOUTH! It was pretty hilarious, but when I saw it in the editor's cut I felt it was just a bit TOO gross -- so I cut it from the show. Perhaps when I get my DanWarp YouTube Channel going, I'll put it up so you guys can see it.

In this scene, Sam puts a grocery bag over Freddie's head. That is not a normal grocery bag! Whenever we do a scene that involves groceries in paper bags, our prop master gets us these "Hollywood" PROP grocery bags that are made special for TV shows and movies. They make MUCH LESS NOISE than real grocery bags. By using them, you don't get all those crinkly sounds (which cause audio issues) that you get with real grocery bags. And if you do hear some crinkle sounds in the show, those are SFX (sound-effects) ADDED in post production.

7th SCENE

After Pete asks Sam out for Friday night, we see Sam and Carly give each other a special signal -- they each brush their nose with their forefinger. This is a nod to "The Sting" -- a great, classic movie. Robert Redford and Paul Newman used that same secret signal in the movie.

8th SCENE

Nothing really to report in this scene... except I think it's pretty adorable the way Veronica kisses Spencer (TWICE). How cute is she?!?

9th SCENE

A new Penny-Tee worn by Freddie!

10th SCENE

One of my favorite lines in this episode is when Spencer says, "Don't go -- please! I'm so nicely dressed!!!" Kills me.

Jerry's delivery on the last line of this scene -- "I know" -- is absolutely brilliant. Perfection.

11th (FINAL) SCENE

It was not scripted for Jocelyn to dump the French fries down Sam's shirt. I added that on the floor (as we shot the scene). And, of course, I then added the Sam line at the end of the scene, "It's actually a pretty good place to keep French fries."

P.S. There's a VERY COOL new surprise at the very end of the show. See if you notice what it is! ;)

I'm so glad that after the 7th scene you were less specific. That makes me feel better about being a spoiler whore and reading this 3 HOURS before I can watch the episode.

I KNEW IT!! I knew you guys used special bags! The paper just looks thicker and softer than normal paper. Do you guys use special paper too? Sometimes I notice that pieces of paper (like the website ownership form from iWant My Website Back) have the same "thicker" quality to them.

Just finished the episode and it was awesome! I like how you make references to other shows and movies, its like paying a tribute to past projects. Too bad you have to be careful around the censors, its like stepping on glass with those guys. I look forward to the next episode.

I actually love that you call out the songs from the public domain. When Spencer yells that in iHatch Chicks, I can't help but grin.

Nice episode. Just saw it and enjoyed it.

Hey, if Freddie is such a geek, when do we see him playing some Dungeons and Dragons? Or better yet, Hackmaster!

It was another great episode. Thanks for the fun facts about the episode as well! I think you should do these facts during the premiere of every new episode, because there's some very interesting info (for example, I didn't understand the "PD" thing until I read what you put about it, and also the hand signal between Carly and Sam).

I caught the "DanWarp" when it showed Schneider's Bakery. Very cool. Can't wait until "iGo Green" on April 22nd.

Oh, I just had a quick question. I dunno how much of it you can answer, given that you can't give too much away, but will we be seeing anymore of Pete? The reason I ask this is because a lot of shows seem to have one of the main characters going out with someone in one episode, only for that minor character to disappear in future episodes with no explanation as to whether they broke up or not. Will there at least be an explanation if Pete doesn't return? I know it's inevitable that Sam and Freddie will eventually get together... at least that's what I think anyway. :)

Thanks in advance if you get around to answering my question, and keep up the great work, Dan!

Look at all of Spencer's dates that just disappear, but sometimes for good reason...

They're intimidated by his hair.

You aren't far off. I sack at a grocery. Things I hate about grocery bags (as a bit of an expert).

Plastic is WEAK. REALLY weak.

Paper is the best free option, holding nearly as much as our standard "Green" bag, but so few people demand it our store stopped ordering it.

Green bags cost between $1.00 and $1.50 and $2.00 for the insulated bags for cold stuff, and people don't want to pay for them, even though they hold the most (A LOT more than large plastic ones) and run no risk of ripping down the side.

There's more but honestly you don't want to hear me gripe anymore...

My argument back was, "Come on, we don't have any idea WHAT Gibby was doing back there with the girls" -- but the network felt it was too suggestive, so I cut that part out in editing, to make them happy.

The network thought that was too suggestive? Because I've seen way more suggestive stuff on D&J. Not that I mind or anything. Just, wow.

I thought the joke about panties was a little distasteful. Isnt this a kids show? This isnt the first time i've seen Miranda Cosgrove have to say something a little inappropriate for a kids show. The talk about Ms Briggs "boobs" in another episode was also inappropriate for kids. Stop sexualizing children.

If you ever do get your YouTube channel up and running, I can imagine watching a lot of scenes that couldn't make it into the final cut episodes being put up there. I definitely want to see that Gibby scene you said was cut from tonight's episode! You did great on tonight's episode, and that Gibby scene would have just been icing on the cake! It would have flew over younger kids' heads yet all the teenagers or older (such as myself) would have laughed their heads off!

The scene where Freddie comes in where Carly is trying to teach Sam some dinner etiquette and later in the scene where Carly asks Freddie to role play with Sam and he starts running for the door had me in stitches!

Also, the other scene where Sam is all girlified and approaches Pete with a half eaten burger and she has to resist eating the burger and throws it away made me laugh too!

All in all, iMake Sam Girlier is one of your funniest episodes yet, man! Keep it up!

But, I wonder after that big fight in that restaurant, would Sam be banned or something? Because I remember I got in a fight in a cafe in middle school once (I was immature back then. And, the person kept on calling me "gay".) and I was banned for 2 months. Just wondering. :/ (I also find it a bit coincidental that on the exact day that I would have finally been able to freely walk into that Cafe again, it was the day that the Cafe went out of business.)

Also, given the copyright laws don't change again, you'll finally be able to use "Happy Birthday" by 2030.

Anyone who wants to read all about the Happy Birthday copyright thing, here's a link with lots of information about it:
